What the Star Has Shared About His Family
Glen Powell may be the most famous member of his family, but his parents, Cyndy and Glen Powell Sr., have a knack for making headlines of their own.
After trolling him at his "Hit Man" screening in May, the playful couple stopped by the TODAY Plaza on July 17 to show off some new signs they made for their son, who was being interviewed on the show.
"Yeah, I recognize both of these jokers," Glen Powell jokingly said after spotting his parents in the audience.
On the TODAY plaza, Glen Powell’s mom held up a sign that read, “I changed Glen Powell’s diapers” and his father’s sign said, “Glenn Powell is a force of nature.”
When Cyndy Powell was asked how she felt about her son's rising fame, she told TODAY’s Dylan Dreyer the experience has been a “fun ride."
“We have big FOMO, so this is really, really fun for us,” she said.
On May 15, Glen Powell's parents trolled him in a similar way when the actor attended the special screening of his "Hit Man" movie with his mother and father by his side.
One of their signs read, “Stop trying to make Glen Powell happen,” while the other insisted, “It’s never gonna happen."
Teasing their famous son is apparently nothing new for the couple.
“Well, my family — always my mom and my dad — are known for kind of trolling me a bit,” Glen Powell told Entertainment Tonight at the "Hit Man" screening, which took place in Austin, Texas.“
"They thought that was going to be a funny idea so I loved it,” he said, adding, “Even though they troll me, they support me in every in every way.”
Glen Powell added that his parent's funny signs were inspired by nasty remarks they read about the actor online.
“I don’t read tweets but my parents read tweets — so if you’re talking s---, know that my parents are reading those tweets,” he joked.
Cyndy and Glen Powell Sr. raised their three children — Glen Powell and his sisters, Lauren and Leslie — in Austin, Texas, the actor told Austin Weekly in 2023, and have supported his dream of being an actor since he was a boy.

Glen Powell's parents have made cameos in his movies
During a July 17 appearance on TODAY, Glen Powell said his parents have made a cameo in "every single" movie that he's done.
Indeed, they have appeared in uncredited roles across various movie and TV series. For example, his mom played a NASA employee in "Hidden Figures" and a lunch lady in "Everybody Wants Some!!," according to IMDb, while his dad portrayed a prison guard in "The Life of David Gale."
In 2023, the pair played two passengers on a plane in the rom-com "Anyone But You."
“The funniest part about that scene in general is that my dad’s the real Method actor,” Glen told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s stone-cold asleep ...he's the Daniel Day-Lewis of sleep acting. There was not a false beat in that performance.”
Glen Powell's parents will also be making an appearance in his new movie, "Twisters."
"There's a great sequence midway through a rodeo scene in the movie and they're right behind Daisy Edgar-Jones and I," he told TODAY's Hoda Kotb in an interview on July 17.
Glen Powell's dad proposed to his mom in 1983
Glen Powell Sr. popped the question to his wife in Washington, D.C. in 1983.
"Quick trip to the foot of the Jefferson Memorial…where 40 years ago my dad proposed to my mom. Happy Anniversary, you two. Lucky to have your love in my life every day," their son captioned images of the couple re-enacting their proposal on Instagram.
In addition to Glen Powell, the couple has 2 other kids
Glen Powell is the middle of three children. He has an older sister, Lauren Powell Whatton, and a younger sister, Leslie Powell. Leslie Powell is a singer-songwriter.
In a recent post, Leslie Powell posted pictures of her posing with her parents near "Hit Man" posters.
The couple enrolled their son in acting classes at a young age
While speaking to Austin Weekly, Glen Powell recalled falling in love with the movies after seeing "Jurassic Park" as a child with his dad. “I didn’t know if I was going to be a writer, actor, producer, or an entertainment lawyer,” he said. “I just knew that I wanted to be in the business.”
His parents later enrolled him in classes at the Austin Musical Theater.
Glen Powell Sr. also showed his son the original "Top Gun" movie when he was young, unaware that the actor would decades later star in its sequel, "Top Gun: Maverick."
“I was 10 years old, and I remember him handing me the VHS and saying, ‘Hey man, we’re gonna watch 'Top Gun,'" Glen told Access Hollywood in 2022.
“I liken it to a dad playing catch with his son for the first time. It just meant something to him.”
The whole family is very tight-knit
Glen Powell often gushes during interviews about he how close he is to his parents and two sisters.
“I have a huge, rowdy Texas crew who gets me in all the right kinds of trouble,” Glen Powell told Nylon in 2014. “If you are lucky enough to meet them, you’ll figure out quickly why I’m constantly home and that all of my farfetched and seemingly impossible stories about my family are actually all true."
While being inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame, Glen Powell thanked his parents for their support.
“It’s an incredible thing to have amazing parents,” he said.
In the same speech, he called his family "the most fun family on the planet."
