This kind of dream may be your subconscious' way of alerting you to change any unhealthy behavior before it creates a real problem in your life.

A house, as a dream symbol, represents the state of our inner life, as well as our relationship to what we believe a home is and should be.

The fact that the tornado was about to take out the top of your house may symbolize that something foundational in your life, like money, housing, familial and intimate relationships, needs to be addressed before it gets blown away.

This dream can be read in many ways. Are you overspending? If yes, this dream may be warning you to pay attention to your spending habits.

If your finances are in order, then this dream may be alerting you to anxiety that needs to be dealt with through healthy coping strategies.

Short-term coping strategies like shopping or distracting yourself on the internet when a big feeling comes over you may feel helpful in the moment but in the long run these strategies are not effective in truly letting you to help let go of stress and anxiety.

There are two probably interpretations. Maybe you don't feel like you're going in the right direction. Or, maybe you feel like you are going in the right direction, but fear an intervention that will knock you off course.

If you are dealing with the first scenario, then you can change your direction at any point. If you feel like you are headed in the right direction but worry about what could could happen in the future, you may be participating in a cognitive distortion known as catastrophizing. This happens when you think of the worst possible outcome and feel anxiety around your imaginary worst case scenario.

The key here is to come back to your center, root back into the present moment, and practice calming any angst that you may be feeling. Often this type of cognitive distortion has nothing to do with what is really happening. Rather, it stems from an underlying fear that needs to be witnessed and healed.
